Where's Asher

Before

During

After

Whose kid is this?!! Certainly this can not be Asher?! Look at how those blue eyes sparkle. Asher has been begging for a haircut like Jesse's ever since we shaved his head. Joel kept saying "absolutely not" and I gently prodded "why not..it will grow back if we don't like it. Let's just see." Every morning Asher asked and when Joel was finally convinced he pulled out the sheers. It was sad watching all those blonde locks fall to the floor. Joel is still crying but I LOVE it! He just looks like a different boy, a grown up almost. and I see so much of Joel there now that I didn't see before. Asher thinks is it hilarious that no one recognizes him. Only time will tell now which hairstyle will win out.

Let's Go Fly a Kite

This was how the Thorson Family spent Father's Day. Joel got breakfast in bed after being woken up by 3 bouncing kids, a trip to church, and then we went on a lovely picnic and flew kites by the water. It was beautiful and we all had a blast. This picture of Anna was taken about 30 seconds before she flew her kite into a tree where it has now taken residence forever. Oh well, she got over it. And then Daddy brought her home a new kite today from his TDY. He is so good to them! We hope all you Daddys out there had a wonderful Father's Day.

Spencer's Fun Run

Anna at the start.

Anna at the finish.

Asher at the start.

Asher slowing down but close to the finish!

All the happy racers.

Spencer is a 6 year old friend of ours who is really into sports and wanted to organize a fun run for his friends so his parents helped make is happen. There was a 1/4 mile race for 3 and 4 year olds and a 1/2 mile race for 5 and 6 year olds...so Asher and Anna ran their first race today. They were so excited to be running and not riding in a stroller. Joel tried to jog next to Anna and she yelled at him. "Just for kids Daddy!". They LOVED us cheering for them and were so good at cheering on their friends. It was sooo adorable! Asher was totally worn out but Anna was ready for another race. She is certainly the natural athelete in the family. At one point, Jesse took off down the track...he was ready for the baby race! Running has been such a great thing for all of us to enjoy as a family (well you will have to ask Joel his opinion of "enjoyment").

The baby is gone...

This is the first time Joel and I have given our one of our boys an official "boy" haircut. Joel decided today that he wanted to try it with Jesse after he was called a girl again twice in one week. We figured he was young enough that we could experiment in order to discover what hairstyle we liked. It can always grow back! He certainly looks different but we really like it! I think next time we will leave some bangs but now his eyes and smile REALLY stand out. He looks like such a boy! So Asher says "Daddy, cut my hair like Jesse's too!". Daddy said no way. Would Asher be Asher without that crazy hair? We love Asher's hair but think this is the way Jesse will be from now on. It is good for brothers to be different and find their own way, right? We are just starting early.

Anything you can do, I can do better

Yey Anna!! Look at her go! She asked to take her training wheels off tonight and we obliged. I believe Anna has this philosophy that if Asher can do it, so can she. She did awesome right away but freaked out when she realized no one was holding on to her. But she quickly got better and better (it might have helped that we bribed her to keep trying with monster cookies). She is a pro at going straight but struggles at turning. Unlike Asher, this experience was a little more how we thought a parent teaching a kid to ride a bike might go in that we had to run beside her quite a bit, catch her during tuns, and stop her from hitting the parked cars a couple times. It will be a great memory!
